Dr. Lauren M. Smith is a native of Indianapolis, IN. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Loyola University of New Orleans and received a medical degree from the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine. Completing her residency training at the Cook County Emergency Medicine residency program in 2006. After working in the community, she joined the emergency medicine faculty at John H. Jr. Hospital of Cook County in 2008. In 2015, Dr. Smith attained her MBA from Indiana University Kelley School Business of Medicine program.
As faculty at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Dr. Smith serves as Chair of Division of Quality and Observation for the Department of Emergency Medicine. Hospital-wide roles include serving on the Utilization Management and Oversight Committees. She chairs the Cook Medical Group- Managed Care Committee and is serving the Executive Committee of Stroger Hospital Executive Medical Staff.
Other obligations include residency and faculty recruitment, faculty moderator for morbidity and mortality conferences and mentoring. Dr. Smith has authored chapters in “5-Minute Emergency Medicine Consult” and “Emergency Medicine Procedures” and “Harwood- Nuss”. Outside of the hospital she is an avid sports fan, world traveler and serves on the Board of Directors for Chicago Jesuit Academy, a full-scholarship lower and middle school for young men from modest economic backgrounds.
