2025 Board Candidates

Matthew Davis, DO, FACOEP
Letter of Intent
My name is Matthew Davis, DO, FACOEP. I have been practicing Emergency Medicine since 2007 and have been a member of the ACOEP since becoming an emergency medicine resident in 2004. I have served as a judge for FOEM events and was recently chair of the Academic Affairs Committee. Additionally, I am an active educator and have been involved in the Norman Regional Health System Emergency Medicine Residency program since its inception; I was among the original core faculty and now serve as an Associate Program Director and Simulation Director.
I have personally benefited from my membership in ACOEP and have seen the quality of the conference improve over the years. Osteopathic emergency physicians rely on ACOEP to provide a voice within national organizations as well as advocacy at the Nation’s Capital. I realize the importance of growing the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians to meet the challenges of the future and to maintain our voice. Osteopathic physicians deserve a seat at the table for all conversations related to our specialty. An active and healthy ACOEP ensures that we are represented the way we deserve.
I respectfully request the opportunity to run for the ACOEP Board of Directors so that I may be part of the team to help guide ACOEP towards a positive tomorrow for the good of the organization and for the good of the members it serves.
Thank you for your consideration,
Matthew Davis, DO, FACOEP

Letter of Intent
Hello! My name is Ben Godfrey. I appreciate you taking the time to read my campaign message. I am currently serving as the ACOEP Secretary and Editor of The Pulse. My second term on the Board of Directors is ending and am now running for re-election for my third and last term.
I served the College on the Resident Student Advocacy Committee for many years before being elected to the Board of Directors in 2019. Since then, I have served as a general board member on the Finance, Bylaws, CME and now EMS Committees and advocated for ACOEP in the original panel discussions for the Emergency Medicine Workforce Study. During my current term, I served as the Executive Committee Board Member At Large before being elected as Treasurer and most recently, Secretary.
Looking forward, ACOEP and its members face many challenges. I have had the honor of serving you and the membership alongside a great team on the current Board. We have a depth of knowledge of the issues facing us and are working with our management team and other associations to create solutions that will make the College stronger, more efficient, a better value for your membership dollars and represent Osteopathic Emergency Medicine.
I look forward to continuing to serve you and ACOEP. Thank you for your consideration and your vote.
Very Respectfully,
Ben

Letter of Intent
I’m extremely fortunate to have had remarkable mentors such as Dr. Chuck Prestosh, my residency director, and Dr. Jennifer Axelband, my ICU/EM attending. They allowed me the grace as a brand-new mom and resident-physician to feel worthy, intelligent, teachable, and foster the sense of belonging in a community of other osteopathic emergency physicians. During residency, I pictured my future in academic medicine, teaching others and helping raise the next generation of emergency medicine residents to be passionate about their profession. Instead, I had the amazing opportunity to boomerang back to my home town of Flagstaff, Arizona, to the hospital in which I was born and worked as an EMT prior to my departure to medical school. I savored the chance to be in my home community and practice medicine, working with a stellar crew of EM physicians in a private democratic group. I served on the executive committee and made partner within my first year. I have been committed to the business of medicine for the past several years while practicing in a busy level 1 trauma center, dedicated to patients from the Southwest and beyond.
The COVID-19 pandemic gave us all an occasion to develop a new perspective on life. How we choose to translate that into navigating emergency medicine is an intense decision. Early in 2020, some of the local indigenous populations were severely devastated by COVID. Due to the incredible need for assistance in these communities, I started working per diem for Indian Health Services (IHS) on the Navajo Reservation in Fall of 2020. The experience resonated with me so deeply, I transitioned to a full-time career with IHS in Tuba City Regional Health Care, dedicating myself to a Navajo and Hopi Indian community.
I have now served on the ACOEP Board of Directors for the past 3 years and have been able to contine to my unique rural and IHS medicine while still fulfilling my osteopathic roots. Being a DO is at the core of my training and passion, especially having been a pre-doctoral OMT fellow at Midwestern University for 3 years of additional schooling and attending a DO residency program. I have attended ACOEP meetings from the start of residency and have continued as an attending as I appreciate the need to have a voice as a DO within emergency medicine. Being part of the ACOEP Board of Directors has been an excellent way for me to further my engagement within the osteopathic emergency medicine community and translate that to the smaller community where I work. I ask for your consideration to contine serving the ACOEP Board to help engage further rural medicine interest and entrepreneurial medicine opportunities. Thank you for your consideration.
