Individuals accepted for the title of Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (FACOEP Dist.) will have demonstrated that their participation in the specialty of Emergency Medicine has raised the level of excellence of the organization(s) in which they have participated. Such individuals will have advanced emergency medicine in either the osteopathic or allopathic profession through the following:
- Professional contributions to national, state, or local organizations.
- Significant ongoing research contributions to the specialty of emergency medicine.
- Development of a clinical training program.
- Service to the profession that has achieved national, state, or regional recognition.
- Receipt of awards for excellence in teaching from local, state, and national organizations.
Applications for Distinguished Fellowship are due June 9th.
Criteria for selection to this title will be:
The candidate must have the following criteria:
- Current certification in emergency medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM) or American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM).
- Continuous membership in ACOEP for 10 years prior to nomination. Resident membership is included in this ten-year period.
- Documented attendance at five ACOEP General Membership Meetings in the ten-year period prior to application with at least one of those in the last three years. Only the member’s signature on the attendance sheet for the membership meeting will be accepted as proof of meeting attendance.
- Attendance at three ACOEP-sponsored national CME meetings in the ten-year period prior to application for Fellowship with at least one of those within the last three years (these may include ACOEP’s Written Board Prep; Oral Board Review, Spring Seminar; or the Scientific Assembly)-you must be a registered participant to utilize for this qualification.
The candidate must have completed four or more of the following special criteria:
- Publication of scientific articles or reference materials in the field of emergency medicine, in nationally peer-review periodicals with references to the publication in which the article was published.
- Past or present membership on an ACOEP Committee.
- Past or present membership on the ACOEP Board of Directors.
- Faculty appointment in Emergency Medicine at an accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine or College of Medicine accredited by the AOA or AMA, respectively.
- Active involvement in the leadership and education in EMS, including but not limited to:
- EMT, First Responder, EMD, and/or paramedic training
- Working as a Medical Director of a Community EMS System
- Participation in local disaster planning and implementation
- Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director or faculty member.
- Advanced academic degree or fellowship training.
- Examiner/Test Development from AOBEM/ABEM
- Foundation Board Member (past or present)
- Having made a significant contribution to the specialty of emergency medicine in the osteopathic profession.
