Dear ACOEP Members,
I want to share an important leadership update ahead of our upcoming Scientific Assembly meeting.
Dr. John Dery, DO, FACOEP-D, FAWM has made the difficult decision to step back from his role as President-Elect. In a message to the Board, Dr. Dery shared that while his commitment to ACOEP remains steadfast, he does not feel he can devote the full time, attention, and energy the role of President requires at this time due to a recurrence of a significant health issue. We deeply respect his decision and are grateful for his honesty, dedication, and continued desire to serve the organization in a meaningful capacity.
With the full support of the Board and following a Special Meeting held on September 10, Dr. Benjamin Godfrey, DO, FACOEP was elected by the Board to serve as President-Elect, effective immediately. Per the bylaws, Dr. Godfrey will assume the role of ACOEP President upon leadership transitions during the Fall meeting. Dr. Dery was then elected to fill the role of Secretary, remaining on the ACOEP Executive Committee.
This adjustment reflects our shared commitment to ensuring steady, capable leadership as we prepare for the next term and continue to advance ACOEP’s mission. We are grateful to both Dr. Dery and Dr. Godfrey for their flexibility, service, and leadership during this transition.
