2026 EM Match
The Emergency Medicine community is proud to welcome 3,058 newly matched interns into our specialty. This is the largest cohort ever to match into Emergency Medicine. Even with an increased number of training programs, Emergency Medicine achieved a 96% fill rate, reflecting continued strength and sustained interest in our specialty.
Emergency Medicine matched over 7% of graduating US allopathic and 14% of US osteopathic medical students this year, with growth among U.S. MD and DO seniors. Additionally, a growing number of applicants identified Emergency Medicine as their preferred specialty, underscoring applicants’ strong alignment with our mission and values. Trends in the overall applicant landscape warrant continued attention to ensure a robust and diverse future workforce.
We celebrate the success of this match and warmly welcome our newest colleagues. We also recognize the importance of continued focus on the challenges in our specialty, including workforce pressures, reimbursement changes, and care delivery constraints. To support a strong future for Emergency Medicine, it is essential that we continue to strengthen pathways into the specialty, support a highly skilled and resilient workforce, seek clarity from regulatory bodies regarding training requirements, and advocate for safe and effective care environments.
